Chapter 01

Leaks, holes and blow-offs

Their roof repair page puts it plainly: "Whether you have a hole in the roof of your house or need a new roof on your commercial building, you can rely on us to help." They add that they'll do whatever it takes to get you a well-built roof as soon as they can.

Most leaks start at a joint, not in the middle of a shingle field. Flashing where the roof meets a wall or chimney, the seals around pipes and vents, and the valleys where two slopes meet all take the most water. A good repair finds the actual entry point, which is often a few feet from the stain on the ceiling.

Wind is the other common cause. One Richland-area homeowner's review on their site says Black Diamond replaced roofing that had blown off in the wind, did an excellent job at a very reasonable cost, and finished the same day.

A free estimate, fitted to the roof

In their words: "We offer free estimates on all roof repairs and customize our services to fit each roof." No two roofs fail the same way, so the fix is not a stock package.

Before you call, a few notes help. Where is the stain or drip, and does it show up only after heavy rain or wind? Roughly how old is the roof? Any photos from the ground or the attic are useful. Call the office at (509) 943-ROOF, or text Josh on (509) 308-6656 if that is easier.

The crew is based on Garlick Blvd in Richland and serves the Tri-Cities and the towns around it, so most repair calls start close to home.

Chapter 03

Repair or replace: an honest call

Not every leak means a new roof, and not every patch is worth paying for. If the roof is near the end of its life, or the repairs are starting to add up, the better money may be a full replacement. Black Diamond's own installation page says the same: when the cost of repairs adds up, it's time to consider replacing the roof.

The two services overlap, and the estimate is where you find out which side of the line your roof is on. Our page on roof replacement in the Tri-Cities explains what that job involves.

If you are buying or selling, they also offer low cost roof certifications. It is a straightforward way to know what shape a roof is in before the paperwork is signed.

Residential and commercial

The company says it specializes in residential and commercial roof repair, and their contact page puts it more boldly: "There is no commercial or residential roof we can't fix." That covers a hole in a house roof and a leaking commercial building alike.

The people matter too. Black Diamond is licensed, bonded and insured, and has held its Washington contractor license since October 2003. Reviewers on their own site also mention crews that arrive on time, clean up when they finish, and stand behind the work if a problem comes back.
