Finished roofs from Black Diamond, around the Tri-Cities.
These are Black Diamond's own jobs, grouped by what is on the roof. Each photo is captioned by material and roof type, not by customer or street.
01 · Architectural shingle
Architectural shingle
Most of these photos are shingle roofs: ranches with two-car garages, two-storey homes, a Victorian turret, a Cape Cod and a hip roof with the river past the eave. What to look at is the lines: straight eaves, tight ridge caps and valleys that run true.

02 · Metal
Metal
Metal is a different trade from shingle. The panels are long, the fasteners are hidden and every seam has to run straight over the whole roof. These are Black Diamond's standing-seam jobs, two of them from the air, where you can see the panels read as one sheet.

03 · Multi-unit and commercial
Multi-unit and commercial
On a row of townhomes, the job is consistency: one shingle, one exposure and one ridge line from the first unit to the last. Black Diamond also roofs commercial buildings for owners and general contractors. This group shows the view from above, where a roof's layout is easiest to read.

04 · Patio covers and details
Patio covers and details
Black Diamond is a general contractor, so the work around the roof comes from the same crew. A patio cover is built and roofed to tie into the house. Then there are the small things that decide whether a roof lasts: ridge cap, shingle edges and how a roofline meets the walls.
